Hello, my name is Angelique Hawkins. I graduated from Middle Georgia State University’s Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program in May 2026. I decided to return to school to pursue my dream of working in healthcare. However, like many success stories, the journey came with challenges. I knew the program would be demanding, and I realized that working while enrolled would not be a feasible option if I wanted to succeed academically. After receiving my acceptance letter, I buckled down and worked long hours to prepare for this major transition in my life. I organized my finances and completely exhausted my savings. Unfortunately, it still was not enough. I found myself facing a difficult decision between continuing my education and simply surviving financially. Thankfully, I received an incredible amount of support from Mrs. Freeman with the Middle Georgia Consortium. She took the time to listen to my challenges and connected me with the assistance I needed through WIOA. Within a short period of time, Mrs. Freeman helped ensure that the financial burden of my education became one less thing I had to worry about. My tuition, books, educational expenses, and transportation costs for traveling to externship sites were covered. Because of that support, I was able to fully focus on my studies and succeed in my program. I graduated with the highest GPA in my class and was inducted into the Lambda Beta Society for academic excellence. None of this would have been possible if I had given up and not reached out for assistance through the Middle Georgia Consortium. Today, I am a proud Registered Respiratory Therapist serving patients in Georgia. I am forever grateful for this opportunity and for everyone who helped me along the way. Thank you all for believing in me and investing in my future.
