Chanlin came to the Middle Georgia Consortium’s Summer Teen Partnership Recruitment session held at Hawkinsville High School. Chanlin expressed her desire to earn money since her Senior Year was approaching. She did not want to place additional burdens on her already financially strapped family. Chanlin wanted to enjoy all other activities afforded seniors and make her journey through high school one of the most memorable events in her life. At this session she was given an application and a list of documents she would need in order to establish eligibility. Chanlin attended the eligibility session and she did indeed meet eligibility requirements. Chanlin’s interests, maturity level, personality and demeanor dictated a need for placement in a worksite that would be demanding, yet enjoyable. Chanlin was placed at the Pulaski County Department of Family and Children Services Office (DFACS). Working at DFACS helped Chanlin determine her career path, enhance her skill level and allows her to earn the money which she needs in order to make her senior year a memorable event in her life. Chanlin was transferred to the WIA program at the end of her Georgia Summer Teen Partnership Work Experience Program. Chanlin graduated from Hawkinsville High School on May 27, 2011 as scheduled. She continued to work at DFCS through July 31, 2011. On August 11, 2011 Chanlin entered Emmanuel College to pursue her dream of becoming an educator. Chanlin is destined to be successful at Emmanuel College. She believes this post-high school experience at Emmanuel College will help to put her in touch with her “true self”. At graduation practice she looked at me and said, “Thank you Ms. Simon for all that you have done for me. I couldn’t have made it without you, the Middle Georgia Consortium and WIA”. At the Middle Georgia Consortium, Inc. it is our quest to help the youth we serve to realize a better quality of life. The end result of Chanlin’s journey is yet to be realized, but all indicators point to success.
