Dear Board and Staff of WIOA,
I am writing this letter not only to express my gratitude for the support I received throughout my educational journey, but to also thank you all for being moral support throughout my journey as well. This was my third time beginning school to finish what I started many years ago which was to become a nurse. Once I was accepted into the RN program, I realized that I did not have sufficient financial aid to support my education throughout the program. I am a mother of an active daughter that was determined to finally do something for me. I learned of the WIOA program during my nursing orientation at school and decided to apply. I was amazed at how simple the process was and how quickly I was approved. Not only did that lift a burden off me, but the financial support allowed me to focus solely on my classes and achieve my goal of graduating with my associate’s degree as a registered nurse.
The aid I received through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act provided me funding for the tools that I needed to be successful throughout my program. I received constant check ins from my career facilitator to make sure that I was doing well physically and mentally. This grant allowed me to develop the knowledge, skills, and professionalism that I need to be successful in my chosen career. I also was provided with funding for travel to ensure I got to and from class and my different clinical sites without having to worry about transportation.
As a result of this support, I am now a registered nurse and gainfully employed with a great healthcare facility. I am forever grateful to WIOA for the commitment and investment you all put in place in helping individuals gain education, skills, and employment that each one of us can take with us for a lifetime. I am especially grateful for my career facilitator throughout, Ms. Cris! She went above and beyond to make sure I received all funding. She listened to me vent about my classes, saw me cry if I failed an exam, and gave me plenty of encouraging words. She truly made me feel like more than just a client!
