Public Health Educator 3 (Substance Use Prevention Specialist)
Full-Time Unclassified Position
This is a Grant Funded position until 2029.
SALARY: $45,000.00 Annually
LOCATION: Opioid Prevention Program, Columbus Department of Public Health, 2100 Comer Avenue, 2nd Floor Health & Human Services Center, Columbus, GA
Duties:
This position will represent the West Central Health District Opioid Prevention Program through meetings, conference calls, and email exchanges. It will work to bridge the gap between local law enforcement, public health, prevention, and treatment efforts within communities, enhancing partnerships with High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area’s (HIDTA) initiatives.
This position will require significant travel throughout the 16 counties of the West Central Health District.
Essential Functions:
- Regularly meet with public health staff, first responders, law enforcement, hospital staff, and other stakeholders as determined by the District Health Director
- Educate and enroll agencies in HIDTA’s Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program
- Support the Multi-Stakeholder Opioid & Substance Use Response Plan, Pain Clinic Closure Response Plan, and HIV/Hepatitis/OD Response Plan
- Assist with opioid and substance misuse response planning and education
- Prepare and submit reports
- Assist District Epidemiologist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing public health data
- Develop graphs, charts, and other visual presentations of data
- Produce educational materials such as bulletins, reports, posters, and flyers
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences OR
- A directly related field from an accredited college or university AND
- Two (2) years of experience in public health education OR
- One (1) year of experience at the lower-level Health Educator 2 (HCP031) or position equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with public health, law enforcement, emergency medical services, or healthcare knowledge/experience
- Experience in program development and strategic planning
- At least 2 years of experience in public health, law enforcement, EMS, or healthcare fields
- Experience supporting state or regional opioid/substance use/overdose response programs
- Experience in developing workgroups with clear goals and objectives
