At the beginning of the summer of 2009, Juana’s father brought her to the Middle Georgia Consortium to introduce her to the staff because she needed a job. He said he called early to find out if we had a summer program and we did. Juana is being raised by her grandmother in an ultra rural community in southern Houston County. This means a town with no shops, no traffic lights and definitely not any opportunities to gain meaningful work experience for an upcoming young lady. Juana was so personable, cordial and lady-like. One could only think about how she would be an invaluable asset to the WIA program. Juana completed the necessary documentation and she did meet eligibility requirements for the WIA program. With Juana’s personality and overall impressive nature, she needed to be placed at a worksite with high visibility. Through the Middle Georgia Consortium, Juana was placed in the Public Affairs Office at Robins Air Force Base where she performed her duties with excellence. At the end of the summer Juana was transferred to the Perry Chamber of Commerce Office in Perry, GA. The Chamber of Commerce is closer to her home and convenient for her commute to and from Fort Valley State University where she is a Junior Early Childhood Major. The Chamber’s staff applaud Juana’s performance each time they communicate with someone from the Middle Georgia Consortium. Juana continues to work for the Chamber of Commerce in Perry, GA through the Middle Georgia Consortium’s WIA Program. She continues to earn money to sustain her as she continues to work towards meeting her graduation requirements at Fort Valley State University. Juana said, “I realize that the skills which I have learned and will learn will definitely help me in the future.” Juana has become such an integral part of the Chamber of Commerce that they have listed her on their office stationary as an intern. Now that is impressive and definitely says a lot about Juana and her impressive nature.
