During my last year of high school, I was searching for a part time job that would help me save money for college and gain the experience that I would need to pursue my chosen career. I was able to gain employment through the Middle Georgia Consortium, Inc., (WorkSource Middle Georgia). Through their Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) work experience program, I was able to secure a part time job as a Library Assistant with a flexible schedule. My Career Facilitator was there to help me along the way and guide me through my first job. The work experience helped me learn important skills such as organization, communication, team work, computer and management, which I can apply to all workplaces. My Career Facilitator met with me once a month to review my progress and address any concerns that I had. Throughout the program, I became a more responsible and professional student and employee. After graduating high school, my Career Facilitator, Mrs. Smith, continued to keep in touch with me and made sure I was on track with college enrollment. I also successfully enrolled in a four year university during the fall of 2020. The program has helped me develop a resume that I have used to apply for many jobs after my high school graduation, presenting career opportunities that are greatly benefitting me. As an incentive for accomplishing my educational goals, I received a monetary reward from the WIOA program for all of my hard work. I encourage any student looking for career advice or work experience opportunities to check out the WIOA program for youth and see all that it has to offer. I am on track for a successful future. Thank you Middle Georgia Consortium!
