I always imagined driving trucks. The fact that I can see the world and get paid for it always excited me. So, a few years after I graduated high school and dropped out of college, I finally set out on my journey; I just didn’t know where to start. I learned about Truck Driving Institute (TDI) from a family friend and did my research on them. I saw that they had great reviews and I became interested. When I went for my interview, I was told I had three options to pay for truck driver training: pay out of pocket, get a cosigner for a loan, or to apply for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding through Worksource Middle Georgia (Middle Georgia Consortium, Inc.). I did not have any money and I knew no one was going to cosign for me. The staff at Worksource Middle Georgia (Middle Georgia Consortium, Inc.) are nice, respectful and very patient; especially Ms. Freeman. Within a week or two of working with them and them working me, I started truck driving school at TDI in Forsyth. It’s a great school. It’s not UGA, but the staff really cares and the teachers care even more. You may have some ups and downs like I did but, in the end, it’s worth it. Thanks to WorkSource and TDI I’m officially a truck driver. -Tamond Parham
