Teresa Alcantar

My name is Teresa Vanessa Alcantar and I recently graduated from Middle Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. After dropping out of high school and becoming a single mother of two children, I never thought I would go back and finish high school, much less go to college! One of the biggest obstacles that I faced when I went back to school was being able to afford it. Nursing school is very expensive! The cost of tuition, uniforms, ATI, books, and other materials overwhelmed me so much when I got accepted into the program. I was very close to dropping out because I just didn’t see a way that I would be able to pay for it all. Then, a representative from WorkSource Middle Georgia named Ms. Freeman came to speak to our nursing class one day and told us all about the program. Thankfully, I qualified for the program and was able to continue in the nursing program with a huge financial burden lifted from my shoulders! On June 23, 2020, I officially became a registered nurse and I am happily working in a neuro ICU. Thank you to everyone at WorkSource Middle Georgia that provided me with the tools I needed to fulfill my lifelong dream and provide my children with a better life. Después de que tuve a mis dos hijas cuando era adolescente y abandone la preparatoria, nunca pensé que volvería a la escuela, ¡Mucho menos pensé inscribirme a la universidad! Uno de los mayores obstáculos que enfrenté cuando regresé a la escuela fue poder pagarlo. ¡La escuela de enfermería es muy cara! El costo de la matrícula, uniformes, ATI, libros y otros materiales me abrumaron mucho cuando me aceptaron en el programa. Estuve a punto de abandonar la escuela porque no veía la forma en que podría con todos los gastos. Después, una representante de WorkSource Middle Georgia llamada Ms. Freeman vino a hablar con nuestra clase de enfermería un día y nos dio información sobre el programa. ¡Afortunadamente, califiqué para el programa y pude continuar en el programa de enfermería con una enorme carga financiera quitada de mis hombros! En el 23 de Junio de 2020, me convertí oficialmente en una enfermera registrada y estoy felizmente trabajando en una unidad de cuidados intensivos neurológicos. Gracias a todos en WorkSource Middle Georgia que me brindaron las herramientas que necesitaba para cumplir mi sueño y brindarles a mis hijas una vida mejor.
